Fluoride Treatment

The enamel of teeth is the protective “shell” surrounding a tooth.  It’s the regular exposure to acid that damages teeth.  Acid secreted from plaque, a high acidic diet, as well as stomach acid all weaken teeth, creating holes in the enamel surface, otherwise known as cavities.  Fluoride is a mineral that binds to the chemical structure of enamel and forms a strong bond that is much more resistant to acid.  Teeth that have been treated with fluoride are much less prone to disease and infection.  Our practice routinely applies a fluoride varnish onto the teeth of children under 13 and to any adult who is showing a higher Caries Risk Assessment and wishes to utilize the cavity protection attributes for their dental health.
