Crowns
When a tooth has lost so much structure that its integrity puts it at further risk of fracturing, or has already fractured, that is when a crown is needed. Essentially, a crown is a new outer shell of the tooth that protects the inner core. Crowns can be made in many different types of materials, from gold, composite, porcelain to zirconia. Each material has particular indications given your individual needs, and our practice will go over the pros and cons of which material may be best for you. Crowns may need more than 1 appointment for completion ~ typically a date to prepare the tooth & a date to cement the new permanent crown. After the 1st appointment, you will leave with a custom temporary crown covering your tooth until your next appointment.
